Legislate Peace Campaign in Afghanistan

In Kabul, Afghanistan, on September 3rd, "Legislate Peace" campaign was held by the Peace House of Afghanistan attended by about 160 participants including civil society organizations and women, men and youth longing for peace.

With the theme of "Legislate Peace - Implementation of the DPCW for Sustainable Development", the event is expected to expand the agreement by collecting further public support for the establishment of a legally binding international law for peace based on the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

The DPCW, a comprehensive document which clarifies the role of members of the international society to prevent and resolve conflicts, is in the process of being introduced to the UN as a draft resolution. As part of the process, HWPL and its affiliated youth organization, IPYG, promote worldwide "Legislate Peace" (LP) project, which has gained 1.5 million supports from 195 countries through supporting signatures and peace letters written to their respective national leaders.

Afghanistan is experiencing a crucial moment, which needs peace more than ever. Peace talks are being carryout by the international community but lack of political consensus is about to challenge the whole efforts for the cessation of war between Taliban and Afghan government. Considering the critical situations Afghanistan is in need for the global support in order to guarantee sustainable peace.

During the event, participants had a moment to write peace letters to the national leaders including the President, the Speaker of Parliament and the President of Supreme Court for them to urge them to support DPCW to be implanted to international law. It aims to receive answers from high-level workers.

"Legislate Peace" Campaign is a part of "The 2019 HWPL World Peace Summit" being simultaneously hosted participated by 300,000 people in over 200 locations in 110 countries including India, South Korea, France, Australia, Russia, Zambia, and the United States of America in cooperation with international peace NGO named HWPL and international actors, civil society organizations and governments.
